Our Why

Hormone University was created as an educational platform with the mission to improve hormone health through accessible knowledge and to advocate for social impact in our communities.

80% of the adult female population has experienced hormonal imbalance at one point in their life that affected not only their physical health but also their mental health. Coping with pain, infertility, anxiety, depression, body image issues, and, on top of this, judgment is the heavy load most of these women have to bear each day and an important problem we need to tackle as a society.

Our Founder

Ana G. Herrera suffered from stage IV Endometriosis for years and went through excruciating PMS pain, infertility and five surgeries, the last one ending in a full hysterectomy and a colon resection, which led to surgical menopause.

Ana’s painful experience inspired her to help others struggling with hormonal imbalances avoid suffering in silence as she did. Knowing there’s a lot to be done and learned in order to make the right health choices, she started Hormone University to educate, support, and empower women to achieve better hormone health and lead a happy life.

Creating a Social Impact

Hormone University is highly committed to creating a positive social impact on our community and beyond.

We aim to educate women on hormonal health and menstrual care through stories shared by other women and qualified experts in the field. All women deserve to have access to research-based content that will help them make the best decisions concerning their health.

We also believe that building a community of healthy, empowered, and successful women starts with menstrual equity. That’s why we have recently partnered with to fight against period poverty and support women’s access to sustainable menstrual care products.


Our goal for the near future is to work with brands that offer clean and sustainable hormone health products and, together, raise awareness about hormonal conditions women of all ages suffer from and break the stigma around this topic.

Did you know?

  • Today, 35 states view period products as luxury goods and impose a sales tax, also known as the “tampon tax,” on all menstrual hygiene products.
  • Nearly two-thirds of low-income women couldn’t afford menstrual hygiene products such as tampons or pads during the previous year, according to a study published in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
  • One in five teens have struggled to afford or not been able to purchase period products, and 25% have missed class because of lack of access to period products, as shown by a survey done by Thinx.
